Arda Viraf Nama

According to historians, the sacred book of Zoroastrians or Persians, “Arda Viraf Nama” was written in Iran during the ancient Sassanid Empire, which ruled Persia or present-day Iran and its surrounding areas from 224 to 650 AD.
According to some historians, this book was written in the ninth or tenth century. However, its date is disputed regarding the first regular volume of the book. Because it is believed that the book has undergone many distortions and additions before and the main story in it, which is about Arda Viraf, a holy figure of Zoroastrianism, has actually been going on since the third century.

In this book, Arda Weeraf’s journey to other worlds is mentioned. This was the period when Iran was dominated by other religions. In this case, Ahura Mazda, the god of Zoroastrians, chooses this virtuous person Arda Viraf to travel to the heavens above to prove to the world that Zoroastrianism is true.

One night when Arda Viraf sleeps, his soul travels to the heavens above. Here he finds a beautiful woman whose name is Deen, which is actually his beliefs and virtues, which he finds in the form of a beautiful woman. Then two beings Sarosh and Adar show him the paths of the sun, moon and stars. He then meets Ahura Mazda who shows him the places where good souls reside who have done good deeds in life. Now he lived in a place called “The House of Songs” and was leading an ideal life. The person who was associated with the field in the world, here he was living an ideal life while living in that field, everyone was happy and satisfied.

And then Arda Viraf is shown as “Damana” which is the home of sorrow and delusion. This is where those who reject the Zoroastrian faith are gathered and suffer eternal punishment in pain and suffering. They are being attacked by invisible creatures, they are being killed, they are being punished by fire, water, ice. These are the people who did bad things in the world and disobeyed the commandments of Ahura Mazda. After all this journey, Arda Viraf is sent back to earth from the heavens to tell people about his journey to the heavens and his conditions on earth and bring them to the right path.
