New mountains are born every year! Do you think mountains are static and always in the same place? You are wrong! Every year new mountains are formed on the earth and old mountains keep increasing in height. All this is caused by the movement of plate tectonics. Plates beneath the Earth’s surface collide with each other, creating new mountains. One of the world’s largest mountain ranges, the Himalayas, is rising a few millimeters every year! So when you look at a mountain, remember that these mountains are also “alive” and constantly growing. Knowing that everything in our world is moving, even mountains, is truly amazing!
